Happy Thanksgiving (Part 2 - i.e., on the actual day)!

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! May this day of giving thanks find you well, happy, healthy, robust, of sound mind and body and ready for many more to come! Make it a great day. :) Our pigs Truffle, Dumbo and Omelet all want to wish you a very happy, healthy and safe Thanksgiving (once again)! They hope you enjoy your turkey (or chicken or steak or tofu depending on your diet preferences), potatoes and pumpkin pie while they enjoy their hay, bell pepper and pellets. :D

Truffle helps peel the potatoes so that they'll be ready for some good ol' mashing! Yeah! Such a good little helper/elf/guinea pig.

Omelet and the pumpkin pie just came out of the oven together. (Ha! ha! We are absolutely 100 percent JUST KIDDING! Disclaimer: No guinea pigs were harmed in the staging and taking of any of these photos. They are all completely safe and sound at the time of this blog entry.) FYI: This pie was not made by us but by the awesome Sweet Things Bake Shop in the East Village. www.girlsclub.org is their official website. Proceeds benefit The Lower Eastside Girls Club.

Omelet wants to try some pumpkin pie. :] But it's not vegan, Omelet! (The pigs are vegans as far as we know.)

As you can see, Dumbo is waiting patiently by the tray of papaya bread thingies that Billye randomly made this morning. He takes a very nice closeup, if I may say so. :) What a handsome little guy!

Dumbo posing very expertly - this could very well be a Hallmark card! :) Billye did a great job taking this pic.

And that's all for today. Happy Thanksgiving! XOXO, Truffle, Omelet, Dumbo, Christina and Billye

Truffle and Omelet say "hello!"

Here are photos of Truffle and Omelet from last weekend.

Being a curious cat. Truffle wants to know what is going on around him.

"Why is there a light going off in my face? :("

I think he looks simply adorable here (as he always does, of course). Look at that precious face! He's a bit mystified because he doesn't know why his hay basket is upside down.

As you can see, Omelet, when stretched out fully, is just about the same size, length-wise, as the width of Billye's stomach! Wow, now we know why the vet and her techinican were genuinely amazed to see how big of a little guy Omelet really is. :]

For comparison, here is a photo of Omelet taken last summer (2009)! When he was very young, he could fit in the palm of one hand! His growth has since slowed, but if there's even a slight chance he can get any bigger, he will need to be committed to a zoo, LOL.

Omelet loves his hay! (As do Dumbo and Truffle.) Among the three of them, they consume on average about 9 pounds of it every four weeks or so. That is a HUGE amount of hay going in their tummies. Here he is eating what we have nicknamed a "gerbil tail." It's the part of hay that has a flowery growth on the end and somewhat resembles a gerbil's tail. :D Omelet loves his gerbil tails! He also loves it when you feed it to him. :)

Omelet is fine!

Omelet came down with a diagnosed case of ileus last week. Dr. Jessica Pizzillo over at the Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group (love them!) examined him, along with her sidekick/technician Jean (who, according to another technician, Tara, knows a TON about rabbits and guinea pigs), and sent him home with Reglan. Dr. Jessica told us to feed Omelet three days of Critical Care (which she then amended to 'not completely necessary' as long as he was eating his normal food) and unlimited amounts of hay. She also recommended we pick up some simethicone (basically, Gas-X in liquid form for babies). We did but then returned it to the store the next day as we did not feel he was exceptionally in need of it.

As of Thursday morning, he has been off of Reglan (which makes you regular, ha ha ha!) and is pooping on his own again. Let it be known that he was switched to a new brand of pellet food last Sunday (actually, two Sundays ago - not Halloween Sunday) and about three days later we observed him suffering from a bit of lethargy and not being overly, well, poopy.

Now he looks better. His poops are self-produced and he is eating normally again. (However, for the record, Truffle, dear sweet little Truffle, is STILL the poop king! Yowza, that little guy with the big rump sure can push those little poops out really quick!)

Here's Omelet:

"What did you say about me, lady?!" (Yes, that's his trademark "angry" stare, LOL.)
